Japanese Shamisen & Taiko Recital

This event showcases the beauty and intricacies of Shamisen music and powerful taiko drums and fosters a sense of community and cultural exchange. Kotori Kai is excited to continue building a vibrant Shamisen community in Oregon and beyond, inspiring both current and future generations of musicians.

Kotori Kai was established in 2023 as Oregon’s inaugural Shamisen School, powered by TAKOHACHI and guided by Yumi Torimaru. This marks the second annual recital for Kotori Kai Shamisen and TAKOHACHI, featuring special guests such as Kyle Abbott, the founder of the international Shamisen Community and Bachido from California. Also, we are planning on having a special performance by a surprise guest musician.

The recital is available for FREE or on a Donation basis and is partially supported by the Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC) through the Art3c Grant.  Doors will open at 2PM, with the performance commencing at 2:30 PM.  Tickets and a sample of the music are available HERE.
