Celebration of Earth Care Congregation
Sunday, April 12, 2026
10:00am - 12:00pm
Rose City Park has just been certified as an Earth Care Congregation! Please join us for ice cream after church on 4/12 to celebrate RCPPC becoming a PCUSA Earth Care Congregation. We satisfied many criteria, from energy efficiency projects, to earth-centric education and worship, to using sustainable coffee and other products. Our special thanks to the folks that led this effort over the past year: Gail Black, Desiree-Eden Ocampo, Mark Linehan, Rae Richen, and Linda Reinhardt, supported by Kate Sechrist and Pastor Liz.
If you are interested in the area of earth care, please join us as we work on plans for this year and our certification for next year. Please speak with Gail Black, Linda Reinhardt, Kate or Liz if you have any questions about this work. Our next meeting will be on June 17th at 9am in the church library. Please join us as we look forward to making progress and expanding out into the community.
(From the Cascades Presbytery) Congratulations Rose City Park Presbyterian, our newest PC(USA) Earth Care Congregation! Rose City Park joins 373 fellow congregations in 42 states with this prestigious designation. Earth Care Congregation Certification is designed to recognize churches that take seriously God’s charge to “till and keep” the garden, that is our shared common home. Since 2010, this PC(USA) program certifies and celebrates environmental ministry across 4 major areas of a congregation’s life: worship, education, facilities and outreach in the community. Earth Care Congregations exist as important examples for congregations across the country. One of the goals of this program is to inspire churches to care for God’s earth in a holistic way, through integrating earth care into all aspects of their church life. By the time a church has recertified for several years, the earth care ethic becomes ingrained in a congregation’s culture, spreads to the surrounding community, and impacts the personal lives of individual church members. Only 4.5% of PC(USA) congregations have earned this designation since 2010, and the number continues to grow each year. Rose City Park now joins sister congregations Southminster, Beaverton (certified 2011) and Kenilworth, Portland (certified 2017).
